Urgent Letters from School Principals at Emure Kingdom
While many people may believe that in Africa, there are many schools, which there are; my visit back to my homeland exposed me to the shocking state of schools in Africa. In my Community- Emure Ekiti, there are more than 20 schools. Hence, one may be tempted not to want to assist in ensuring quality education for our African families. However, my return back to my homeland has taught me to understand that having over 20 schools does not necessarily mean quality education. Our African schools are ridden with incredible poverty... there are schools with no buildings; no bathrooms. Children are being taught science courses in empty laboratories. In the whole Kingdom, only one school has a computer; yet children are attending computer classes. This is a challenge that cannot be tackled by the Royal Family alone. It indeed takes a "village to raise a child." So while we are tempted to look at the Nigerian Royal Family and assume that they are able to handle this crisis alone; this is a myth. I ask that you take the time to go over these letters and sincerely hope that through these letters, you will see the faces of the African Children affected and that this will cause you to help make a difference. Thank you. Sincerely, Fumi S Ogunleye Hancock, RN, Ph.D
